Dr. Emil Savov Joins McLean Watson Capital


TORONTO, May 6 /CNW/ - McLean Watson Capital, a leading Canadian venture
capital firm, is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Emil Savov to the
firm's team of partners. Emil will be responsible for sourcing, evaluating
and implementing new investments in the technology sector, as well as helping
portfolio companies.

Emil has over 20 years of experience in the high technology field,
encompassing industry, investment banking and venture capital. Prior to
joining MWC, he was Vice President of Corporate Development with Ciena
Corporation, a leading supplier of networking equipment, based in the U.S. He
played a key role in numerous M&A transactions totaling over US $4.5 billion,
including ONI, WaveSmith Networks, Catena Networks, and Akara Inc. In
addition, he managed Ciena's US $50 million corporate VC fund. Emil
represented Ciena on the board of directors of eight partner companies,
including WaveSmith Networks, Agility Communications, Laurel Networks,
Luminous Networks, etc.

As Director of Business Development with Newbridge Networks in 1996-97,
Emil was responsible for driving the corporate strategy in the area of
optical networking. He was instrumental in the incubation of Cambrian Systems, a
pioneer in metro optical networking systems, which was acquired by Nortel in
1998. He also held R&D positions with Digital Equipment Corporation in
Ottawa.

Emil was involved in financing telecom infrastructure projects in Central
& Eastern European countries in the mid 1990's when he was part of the
telecom team of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London, U.K. He also spent several years in technology investment banking and equity
research with Goepel McDermid (now Raymond James) in Toronto and Vancouver.

Emil served as Chairman of the Ottawa section of the IEEE Computer
Society and as Secretary of the Ottawa Section of the IEEE LEOS Society. He
has published numerous articles in technical journals and conference
proceedings.

Emil holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the Technical
University of Sofia, Bulgaria, M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical
Engineering from the University of Ottawa, Canada, and an MBA from INSEAD in
Fontainebleau, France.
